In the southeast entrance corridor of the Grand Mosque in Isfahan, there is an alcove whose physical properties indicate its time of construction. This alcove boasts an inscription in Kufic script as well as modest brick ornament on its walls. The inscription includes a currently truncated Koranic verse. By recalculating size of the basic module for the Kufic script, and assuming the verse in its original entirety, it could be conjectured that this alcove is in fact, a remnant of a demolished space over which the existing prayer hall is constructed. Judging by the unsophisticated style of the inscription, it is probable that this space dates from 481 A.H.
