This paper first reviews theories on hermeneutics in light of the work of phenomenologist thinkers such as Schleiermacher (1176~1834), Dilthey (1833~1911), Heidegger (1889~1976) and Gadamer (1900~2002). A checklist is then prepared employing key hermeneutical concepts for studying urban spaces. This checklist is then used for recognizing diverse meanings in the Sa’at Square, Tabriz City. To undertake an empirical research to reread this square, the grounded theory method using Glaser’s approach was used.
