Abstract
This paper attempts to record a design education experience. The students were asked to design a school in a sequence of eleven steps:(i) understanding the subject; (ii) developing design ideas; (iii) considering the ‘place’ of the project; (iv) developing the physical program; (v) concept modeling; (vi) developing the concept further; (vii) finding a geometrical expression; (viii) considering the ‘plan’ and ‘functional logic’; (ix) technical considerations; (x) returning to the subject; and (xi) final technical presentation. Emphasis has been on teamwork and student research throughout the whole project. The key advantage of defining these steps is that both the professors and the students had a clear idea of the otherwise complicated design process.
