Abstract

Cities are currently experiencing a tough competition for economic development and entrepreneurship. The megaproject approach is recently adopted by most developed and some developing cities as a tool to boost their socioeconomic situation. In addition to their impact on the city economy, such projects significantly affect the local economy and neighboring residents. This project attempts to measure these local impacts in the case of the Persian Gulf Martyrs Lake. To this end, resident views were surveyed using a questionnaire tested for credibility. The results were analyzed using Multiple Hierarchical Regression (HMR). The value tree was designed at three levels using 6 criteria and 22 indicators. The local economic impact of the Project was measured to be 3.93 on a scale of 1 to 5, which could be interpreted as significant. The results further indicated that according to residents’ views, the increased tendency for investment has the highest importance in the effectiveness of the project, while the employment and income-generation were found to be of the least importance in this regard.
