Abstract

Tehran has recently witnessed a considerable expansion of green spaces utilizing barren land on the periphery of highways, streets and evacuated land in upgrading of deteriorated fabrics. Nevertheless, such green spaces are often not more than green patches of land despite their potential for becoming vital centers for urban activities. Such spaces will enhance social relations and support personality development and will be ideal urban points for place attachment. Enhancing the quality of these green patches requires adequate emphasis on the role of green space in current urban planning processes in Iran. Furthermore, creative design solutions have to be employed for making a green space attractable to residents.
