<span style="color: black; font-family: 'Calibri Light'; font-size: large;">This paper attempts to define a deteriorated fabric not based on its physical characteristics, but on the basis of its psychological relation with its inhabitants. It is argued that human identity includes those characteristics with which humans identify and represent themselves. These characteristics essentially correspond to the social and physical needs. A deteriorated fabric thus forms when four basic human needs are unsatisfied: distinctiveness, continuity, self-esteem and self-efficacy. Distinctiveness is defined by territorial demarcation and individual geographic location of a fabric, while continuity means place attachment and memory of that fabric. Self-esteem of a fabric means the associated social value of that fabric, while self-efficacy of a fabric denotes residents satisfaction of that fabric’s amenities.</span>
